ca 1939 Gibson Recording King Carson J. Robison Model K “Jumbo” X Braced Conversion

Gibson – Kalamazoo Mich Recording King Carson J Robison Model K “Jumbo”… 16 1/4” lower bout , originally ladder braced now X brace converted by David Hatchard.

Sans the bracing modification,photos attached, this guitar is totally original including the sunburst finish, now oxidized to a cool mojo. Rare to find these guitars and this one is oh so honest. The largest of the Gibson Depression era budget line flat tops. Check out the scan from my 1939 Montgomery Ward catalog…. notice the little stickers offered to “personalize” with your initials, as seen on the lower bout of this example.

We think this guitar has a very cool look to the crack free top and the work we’ve done includes Gibson style X bracing, fretboard divots tastefully filled, completely re fretted, sides refinished and top re bound with old school fibroid ivory, neck re set with new saddle and professional set up with action at 3-2 with proper string break across the saddle and perfect intonation. Includes the extremely rare and very cool original amber tuner buttons on the Kluson tuners and a fresh set of Willi Henkes authentic reproduction bridge pins from Germany. FON stamped on the back of headstock reads EW-760

We love how this one turned out after the the X brace modification. David chose to use two tone bars as opposed to the three tone bars which were on my other Carson jumbo that was modified for Roy Bookbinder by John Arnold. As a result this guitar has a much sharper and more open sound.
