ca 1944 Gibson LG2 Banner
I am pleased to offer this classic Wartime mahogany topped LG-2 model from ~1944, FON 2909-XX with features that include an adjustable truss rod and a 5 piece maple and mahogany neck, with comfortable profile, 1 3/4″ nut width and original Brazilian rosewood bridge and a divot-less fret board, a square neck block and clean frets. This one has the very rich and pleasing color pattern with the outer dark rim of the sunburst setting off a well aged original inner burst in all its glory.
At the 2013 NAMM show, Gibson announced a new series of reissue Banner guitars. At the same time John Thomas released his book Kalamazoo Gals and accompanying CD (visit his web site). Consequently the profile of Banner Gibsons has never been higher and it’s been difficult to keep up with the demand as I continue to get inquiries for my sold Banners. I’ve made it a mission to locate and bring back as many of these historically important guitars as I can for players and audiences to enjoy.
The LG2s are quite versatile guitars indeed, they are equally suitable for finger style country blues, flat picking or strumming either on stage or in the studio. This example has that punch and bright mid range, without a hint of shrillness yet wide open with that dry & woody tone everyone searches for in a small-boded Gibson. Great sustain and louder than Hell!
This guitar is all original and crack free sans some surface finish checks – intonation is precise, notes ring true, your bends are clean and easy. Nice pro set up by Ross Teigen of Naples Florida, with action set to 3/32″ low E and 2/32″ high e and we’ve ensured that this guitar is maintenance free with no compromises for even the most accomplished players.
This truly is a stunning example!
