1905 Hauver – Holzapfel Jumbo Size 12 String (2006 Reissue)
***SOLD***
This jumbo size 12 string Mike Hauver authentic reproduction is based on a design of Carl C. Holzapfel a guitar builder in Baltimore, Maryland between 1898 and 1910. The Holzapfel 12-string is ladder braced combined with two tone bars which contribute to its distinctive sound.
This particular guitar was commissioned in 2006 by Neil Harpe when Mike was restoring Neil’s original 1905 Holzapfel 12 String, Mike copied all aspects of the original., but fabricated a much more comfortable neck. Carl C. Holzapfel built guitars have earned a well-deserved reputation of being among the finest sounding prewar 12-string guitars ever made.
Although these instruments predate even the earliest Martin dreadnought guitars, Holzapfel 12-strings have a body size comparable to that of a dreadnought and are a bit larger than a jumbo Oscar Schmidt Stella 12-string. Holzapfel 12-strings offer a sound very similar to a Schmidt Stella 12-string, but with more volume and an added dimension of complexity.
•12 fret neck •25.4 scale •11 3/4 inch upper bout •15 7/8 inch lower bout •Sides are 4 7/8 inches deep •Ebony bridge and fingerboard •Solid wood throughout: Sitka spruce top mahogany sides and back •Fancy wood marquetry •V shaped neck •Graphite reinforcement inside the neck with an adjustable truss rod •Open gear tuners (Actually a Stella 12 string 1950s set)
We have had plenty of fun with this guitar, both in recording sessions and general play. Condition is excellent over all with a minor non noticeable well repaired dryness crack just left of center seam on the lower bout top. Low action and the sound is wonderful. Your choice of a new vintage style tweed or faux brown leather hard case.
Special thanks to Neil Harpe and to my pals Evan and Bob for the demo videos.
