1947 Martin 00-18 Shade Top

The unusual and rare to see shade top version of the venerable 00-18. The shading of the Sitka spruce top is absolutely stunning! A truly gorgeous guitar. Perhaps because of the bearclaw seen on the lower bout is the reason Martin shaded this one, who knows? But we think it is absolutely stunning.

I posted this guitar last year but had second thoughts because I really love it so much. But now I’m ready, even though it will be sadly missed. I just need to get you cats some more guitars and this is how it’s done. I can’t keep them all.

The braces are 40s tapered. It passes the magnet test for a T Bar truss rod in the neck. S/N 99504 places this guitar in early 1947 when Martin was still experiencing metal shortages, hence the plastic tuner buttons. There is one oddball “Yoda” tuner, actually older than the 5 originals on the guitar that we think is so cool we’ve left it in place. Over all there are a few minor character scratches and some honest pick wear, but no cracks to the top, back or sides sans an extremely well repaired ~ 1″x 2″  wound  to the lower bout side which was professionally repaired prior to our acquisition and the work is of such impressive quality that it can only be found via black light or viewed from the inside. The over all finish of this remarkable guitar remains totally original and black lights well.

Our work is impeccable and well executed by David Hatchard of Exeter New Hampshire which included a neck reset, nicely fabricated replica bridge and a professional set up with proper string break over a new bone saddle.

Action set at just a hair under 4-3 with perfect intonation. Truly a guitar for the accomplished player!

Very focused and rich unmistakable Martin tone and sweetness. This is one of those Martins you can actually feel the body shimmer when you play it.

Offered in a well fitting very cool Martin style hard case in good condition.
