1945 Gibson LG2 Banner Headstock
1945 Gibson LG2 with the Banner Headstock. Stunning wartime survivor and a lively player. Desirable two piece Adirondack spruce top, single piece mahogany back and sides. Scalloped X bracing with a 24 3/4″ scale, 1 3/4″ nut and featuring the single piece solid mahogany neck with the rounded chunky profile and a fully functional adjustable truss rod and mahogany blocks. Nice flat top with a clean original finish and no over-spray and crack free sans an invisible under the pick guard hairline you can’t find and some minor battle scratches and honest pick wear.
Very cool Gibson crazing on this one. The back and one side had a few old amateurishly repaired cracks which my pro luthier re glued and cosmetically peached up.
All original and very cool variegated Brazilian rosewood bridge, bridge plate, tuners and bone nut. We tastefully filled in some minor divots and re fretted the Brazilian rosewood fretboard and gave her a nice neck set and new aged bone saddle.
The impeccable luthier work was performed by David Hatchard of New Hampshire which included a set of Blazer & Henkes cream colored repro bridge pins and tuner buttons. The finger style set up is 4-3 action and proper string break over the saddle with room to lower if desired.
I found this guitar in Nashville, and it’s a true musicians tool and certainly a players guitar. Quite versatile indeed, equally suitable for finger style country blues, flat picking or strumming either on stage, in the studio or comfortable picking all night long on the couch.
This example is ALL about the sound, it has that punch and bright mid range, without a hint of shrillness yet wide open with that dry & boxy tone everyone searches for in a small-boded Gibson. Great sustain and louder than Hell! An overall sensational sounding guitar.
