1943 Gibson Banner Southern Jumbo
Like its sound characteristics, this guitar is chock full of haunting stories. The original owner took it to WWII and the finish was literally “played off” by his company in Europe. Yet they both made it back alive!!
I acquired this guitar from that original owners family. Was in a closet for over 40 years when I found it. All original sans the finish.
We did a neck set, re fret and filled some fret board divots, and what the hell, we even shaved down the big neck for comfy playability as well. All work exquisitely performed by David Hatchard, Exeter New Hampshire.
I never had this one on my Gbase store, it was personal. But I loaned it out to John Thomas for singer – guitarist – roots music interpreter, Lauren Sheehan to play on Johns Banner Gibson Recording sessions, a CD to accompany his forthcoming book on the Banner years at Gibson during WWII, Kalamazoo Gals: the Story of the Extraordinary Women (and a Few Men) Who Built Gibson’s WWII “Banner” Guitars. http://kalamazoogals.com/
Lauren used it on the first song of the album, the tune is When Johnny Comes Marching Home, and well needless to say, John and Lauren fell in love with it and I let go knowing it would have a good home and likely travel on the book tour and live shows.

Please watch all the cool YouTube videos and watch John Thomas play it at Ronnie Scott’s, London and notice his pal below giving it a lick.
Read about the project in this Fretboard Journal article. More info about Lauren Sheehan music.
