1943 Gibson LG2 Banner
It’s well known that the profile of Banner Gibson guitars has never been higher and it’s been difficult to keep up with the demand as I continue to get inquiries for Banners I’ve sold. It’s been my mission to locate and bring back as many of these historically important guitars as I can for players and audiences to enjoy.
So I am happy to offer this classic all original Wartime red spruce topped mahogany back and sides LG-2 model from 1943. Features include a beefy yet quite comfortable single piece mahogany neck with square neck block. This war shortage model does not have an adjustable truss rod, but the neck is straight and true with proper radius to the Brazilian rosewood fret board. The original Brazilian rosewood bridge (or possibly Macassar striped Ebony?) is a proper height and the original maple bridge plate is clean and un molested. Original Kluson 3 on a strip tuners with cream buttons.
What little restoration work on this crack free example was lovingly performed by luthier Ross Teigen of Naples Florida to bring this LG-2 back to optimal playing condition. Dress the original frets, re glue the typical loose braces, re glue the original bridge and re set the neck, fabricate a new bone saddle but leave the original bone nut, add new Willi Henkes Antique Acoustics Gibson replica bridge pins and preform a professional set up suitable for even the most accomplished of players. This guitar has precise intonation and notes that ring true, bends are clean and easy. Proper string break across the new bone saddle with action set to 3/32″ low E and 2/32″ high E with a nut width between 1 5/8″ and 1 3/4″. All set up to ensure that this guitar is maintenance free with no compromises or issues.
Cosmetics include a stunning Gibson sunburst with cool crazing, nicely figured Brazilian rosewood fret board and just a few old body scratches but very clean and smooth back to the neck. The top, back and sides are crack free and the general level of wear and character makes for what we consider an extremely attractive vintage instrument.
This guitar has the Gibson sound!
These wartime LG-2′s will continue to remain highly sought after guitars for their exceptional sound characteristics and versatility … whether performing, writing, strumming or finger style play or accompanying a singer, these guitars are lively fun guitars to play.
Thanks to our friend Richard Bastar III for the cool variety of video demonstrations!!
