ca 1938 Gibson Kalamazoo KG 3/4 Sport
Gibson-Kalamazoo KG 3/4 Sport model flat top, ca. 1938, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Sunburst top, mahogany back, sides and neck with Adirondack spruce top. Recent neck set and currently setup with Nashville strings as the absolute perfect guitar for Nashville high-strung tuning and play. This setup plays and records like a 12 string with accompaniment of another guitar in standard tuning or purely by itself it is a richer and more shimmering sound than what you would get by using a 12-string to play the same part.
Of course it can be strung with a normal set of light gauge strings and played conventionally. This little 3/4 guitar was a later addition to the Kalamazoo line, available from 1937-41. Built on the pattern of the 1920’s Gibson TG-1 Tenor guitar body, the Sport Model is a dainty girlie girl tight-waisted design.
The neck is very slim with a fairly sharp “V” profile. Overall length is 36 3/8″, 12 5/8″ wide at lower bout, and 3 7/8″ depth. Scale length is 23″. Width of new ebony nut is 1 9/16″ with action set at 3-2 and the proper string break across a new bone saddle. All original with some honest play wear yet crack free and in great condition…a true survivor!
