1934 Gibson – Kalamazoo KG-11 Senior

The KG 11 Senior model, although never cataloged, offers slightly higher style than the standard KG-11. You’ll find a subtle sunburst on the front of the headstock, binding on the back as well as the front of the body, an original nitrocellulose fire stripe pick guard and white bridge and end pins.

The factory order number dates the guitar to 1934 and several special features confirm this date: the solid steam bent lining (rather than kerfed) a small sunburst, Waverly “bent-tab” strip tuners, and exquisite lacquered bridge with rounded back corners.

Our inspection showed no history of prior repairs. Florida based luthier Ross Teigen reset the neck and set up this guitar for perfect finger style action of 4-3 at the 12th fret and re glued one loose brace on the back. The new bone saddle is of proper height and string break and the original frets are nearly full height as well … the guitar plays cleanly and effortlessly up the neck.

Condition is exceptionally clean and the guitar is completely original with a spectacular early 1930’s Gibson sunburst finish. The small center of the burst barely kisses the bridge. Fine lacquer checking covers the surface of the instrument and the back and sides remain a vibrant shade of deep mahogany.

Built during the Great Depression, the tone is a perfect match for the country blues of that era. Raspy with a quick decay and a haunting voice, percussive for alternating bass, and lively for solos. This rare early KG Senior has everything you need in one elegant 00 size guitar.
